At an age when no photograph hasn’t been filtered, corrected and enhanced via softwares such as Photoshop, it is rare to see more truthful images. Russian photographer Katerina Plotnikova has decided to break into realism and created these beautiful photographs with real animals. Using the service of wild animal trainers, she ensured that the shoot was safe for both the human and animal sitters. The result being this refreshing and poetic series. I am in love.

Grace Chon | Zoey + Jasper

I found one of these photographs whilst browsing Pinterest a few months ago. I instantly loved it (and pinned it) but I didn’t know that it was part of a series. Then I read this article and found out that these cute sitters were called Zoey and Jasper. Zoey is a rescued dog that photographer Grace Chon adopted and took photos of with her 10-months old son Jasper. Follow their Tumblr here, for more cuteness!

Penniless photographer Zeren Badar chose to express his creativity by re-vamping old masterpieces. Bold and playful, his photographs have been noticed by several art entities and websites. These are amusing, colourful and original. They also remind us that art of quality doesn’t depend on the amount of money spent to make an artwork, but on the creativity of the artist. Well done to Zeren, I hope you don’t stay penniless for much longer!

The Royal Family is so overwhelming popular here in England. Being French, it was quite a surprise for me to realize how much the members of royalty were looked upon. There isn’t a week when we don’t hear about them. However, all the info and photos we get are filtered and only a partial, glamorized version of their everyday life is allowed to be published.

English photographer Alison Jackson decided that it was high time for the public to have a sneaky peak behind the scenes. All these images are fake, with actors looking very similar to the real royals, but they still trigger a voyeuristic state within us. Maybe the Royals are just like everybody else after all?

Danila Tkachenko | Escape

What makes you “you”? Your belongings? Your job? The place you live in? Russian photographer Danila Tkachenko questions the idea of identity through this powerful series called “Escape“. She travelled through Ukraine and Russia and portrayed hermits who live in the wilderness. Living out of the social conventions (job, house, family), these outcasts make us reconsider the “normal” way of life.

Sophie Gamand is a U.S. based French photographer who wanted to raise awareness about the dog breed called Pit Bulls. The term Pit Bull designates several dog breeds (the American Pit Bull Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier…) that general public coins as only one because they have some similarities.

Pit bulls have the reputation of being violent and dominant, and about 1,000,000 pit bulls are euthanized each year in American shelters. Because of their bad reputation, people are usually reticent to adopt them, and this is the reason why Sophie Gamand has decided to create this series.

After working in several shelters, she noticed that the violence of pit bulls was only a cliché, and she decided to portray these dogs in a much more soft and feminine way. “Flower Power” is the name of the series, because she wanted the public to be aware that these dogs are victims of prejudice, and a bit like hippies, have to fight the system and the image they are given.

Anna Lenz | Else

Photographs of old people always trigger ambivalent feelings in my mind. On one side I appreciate the work of the photographer and am interested in the life of the sitter. On the other side though, I feel sad because of aging in general, and how it reduces everybody’s mobility and senses.

Anyway, this is a beautiful series by Hanna Lenz. Else (the lovely lady in the photos) was 97 years old when these photos were taken. She lives on her own in her apartment and used to enjoy reading all day long. Now though, her sight is too bad to be able to read, and she listens to the radio instead.
